day 5 – a sixth

Eat Yourself Fitter – A Pain In The Arse – HST Is My Guru

This Juneathon lark must be working. Almost every blog I read from the super fit (incl. marathoners and triatheletes) mentions somewhere about being constantly hungry. I can, at last, feel I have something in common with these supreme beings, for today I was absolutely starving. All the time. So much so that in addition to my normal meals and other little snacks throughout the day, I have caned over half a pack of Jaffa Cakes and I don’t fancy the chances of the rest of the pack lasting much past lunchtime tomorrow.

Today was a typical English Summers Day in that it pretty much constantly drizzled, occasionally punctuated by actual rain showers with the odd brief dry moment. This morning, I woke, looked out of the window and sighed. Partly because it was so miserable and uninviting out there and partly because yesterdays bike ride had given me aches in places I didn’t realise I had muscles. I was half toying with the idea of coming up with some poor excuse for a Juneathon activity that I could pass off as the real thing without a) venturing outside and b) using any muscles in the upper leg / buttock region. Then I remembered the words of the great and wise Hunter S Thompson which apply to situations like this. “You buy the ticket, you take the ride!”. I had bought the Juneathon ticket so, I suppose I was just going to have to take the ride. Fortunately this revelation coincided with a brief respite in the poor weather so I got the running gear on and ventured outside to do a quick run… Just as the heavens decided to open again.
3.4 miles later I returned to the house – wet, cold but glad that todays Junethaon had been ticked off. And 3 sets of 50 press ups for good measure.

Juneathon Stats: 3.4 mile run, 3 sets of press ups – 50 / 50 / 50 (150 total for day)
