juneathon day 4: the look

Decisions, decisions… It’s kind of a packed day today and I did toy with squeezing in another cycle but as I am cycling tomorrow, thought I’d better try and get a run shoehorned in at some point. And then it hit me… We were planning to visit my brother in law this evening. He lives about 7 miles away. Hmmm… that is a runnable distance and we wouldn’t be leaving until about 6.30 so it would have begun to cool down. The plan was fully formulated in my head and made perfect sense. Until…
We were just finishing breakfast when I mentioned it to Mrs eatingtrees. “Y’know we’re off to your brothers this evening… well, I thought perhaps I could run there and you and the boys could drive and take some clean clothes for me and I could freshen up once I got there and…” and that is as far as I got before I experienced The Look. The look that, within moments, tells me that I am making THE MOST ABSURD, RIDICULOUS AND OUTLANDISH SUGGESTION KNOWN TO MAN and that I’d better stop RIGHT NOW before it’s too late. So I stopped, waited for The Look to subside and didn’t mention it again. Instead I snuck out this afternoon whilst everyone was out at a birthday party and knocked out 11.09kms in the Vibrams.

ooooh. I thought it sounded perfectly reasonable to me. I’ve run home from places far away while the family returned in the car.

That “Look” is very useful, I use it on my OH…..much easier than words!

What look? Never heard of that before and I would never, never use it…..ha ha ha!

Makes sense to me, Grant. But then my decision for a running outing made sense until I did it!

I thought that sounded a very sensible plan (in fact, one that I actually used on the morning of my 30th birthday when I ran to my own party).

Thanks for all the comments. Seems “The Look” is more widely used than I realised. Still, it did seem like an entirely reasonable suggestion to me at the time but I was, clearly, misguided.
